How "fancy" bio text actually works
Instagram's bio field only accepts plain text, so there's no real bold or italic button. Stylish bios work by substituting your regular letters with visually similar characters from other parts of the Unicode standard — mathematical symbols, for instance, that happen to render as bold or script letterforms. Paste the substituted text in and it displays styled, because it technically is different characters, not formatting.
